Please note that our car paint shop only repaints collision damaged cars—Mackin’s does not offer painting services in any other capacity such as complete paint jobs, color changes, or airbrushing.

How Do We Fix a Damaged Paint Job?

Getting your car painted after an accident is a straightforward procedure that needs to be followed closely. Several layers of products must be applied at strict intervals during the repair. This is what the process looks like:

• Find the correct replacement paint using advanced color-matching software 
• Sand/prep the areas that need to be repainted 
• Mask off the areas that will not be painted
• Apply primer across any repainted areas
• Apply the color coat(s) to achieve a perfect color match
• Apply clear coat(s) for a high gloss finish and to protect the paint from UV rays 
• Bake the finish to aid in the drying process
• Return car to the customer

Prepare

The first step of the paint repair process requires our technicians to sand and prep the areas that need refinishing—this will give the products a nice surface to stick to and remove minor defects and road debris. Then we apply automotive masking materials to all parts of the car that will not be painted, such as the windshield, windows, wheels, tires, etc., and the other panels that may not be getting painted. This attention to detail is necessary to get the job done right the first time. When it comes to auto painting, finesse and skill are needed to reach a smooth, stock quality so it’s imperative that the car is prepped correctly for the process.

Paint

The color of the car determines how many paint coats are needed to return it to a stock finish. Primer and repairs are hidden by applying approximately one to three coats of paint evenly and precisely; a shoddy job can result in inconsistent color and uneven layering. The paint must then dry before we spray the clear coat.
